Unifor National Scholarship

Please note that the 2024 Unifor National Scholarship application period is open!

Unifor recognizes that the cost associated with post-secondary education is a challenge for many working families. To assist in making education more accessible, we have established 28 scholarships of $2,000.00 each to children of Unifor members and a Unifor member entering their first year of post-secondary studies. Five of these scholarships are administered by the Quebec Council with a separate application form. Call the Local for details.

THE APPLICATION PERIOD CLOSES ON FRIDAY JUNE 14, 2024.

Unifor Women’s Conference

This year’s theme, “Women Rise” celebrates the countless instances where women have overcome adversity, shattered glass ceilings and forged paths of progress. We rise in our leadership, activism, education and by lifting sisters up. It serves as a call to action to dismantle barriers, challenge stereotypes and advocate for gender equality and justice. The theme invites reflection on the journey of women’s empowerment while acknowledging both the progress we have made and the ongoing challenges that persist. We celebrate the wins of Reproductive Justice in a National Pharmacare program that includes contraception.  We will hear results of the union’s 3-year partnership with Western University's Centre for Research and Education on Violence Against Women and Children (CREVAWC) on how sexual harassment and violence impacts workers.

As we gather to celebrate our victories and the resilience of women in our union this year, we will have Unifor National President, Lana Payne, join us to share her reflections on the hard work she has been doing to build a more equitable union for us all.

The 2024 Unifor Women’s Conference will be held at the Unifor Family Education Centre in Port Elgin, Ontario starting Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. and ending Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at noon.

2024 Black, Indigenous and Workers of Colour Conference

The Black, Indigenous & Workers of Colour Conference (BIWOC) is a bilingual event for members who self-identify. This conference will provide the tools to gain skills and build knowledge.

The conference will be held at the Family Education Centre in Port Elgin, Ontario. The conference begins at 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2024, and adjourns no later than 12:00 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2024.

Conference delegates will have the opportunity to hear about some of the tremendous work being done within our union and our communities. Through participation in skills-building workshops and conversations hosted by past, present and future activists and leaders, delegates will gain knowledge and build relationships they can bring back to their local union and to advocate for equity.

April 28 Day of Mourning

April 28 is the Day of Mourning, a day to remember workers who have died or become injured because of their work. It is also a time to renew our commitment to building safe workplaces and fighting for the safety of all workers.

Close to 1,000 workers die each year in workplace incidents.

This is a staggering statistic, but those who are lost must be more than one number among many. They are our lost colleagues, friends, and loved ones.

In Solidarity,
