PSW Positions Eliminated at Tillsongburg Hospital
Unifor concerned by announced PSW layoffs at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital
Unifor is deeply concerned about the layoffs of Personal Support Workers (PSWs) at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, particularly as part of a broader pattern of restructuring happening across hospitals in Ontario.
While the employer has indicated plans to hire more Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), these additions do not come close to offsetting the loss of PSWs. PSWs are crucial to quality patient care and provide essential, hands-on support to ensure the dignity, safety, and quality of life for patients every single day.
The result of the layoffs will be fewer frontline staff doing more work, placing increased strain on already overburdened health care workers and raising serious concerns about patient care, burnout, and workplace safety.
There is a critical role for every classification in our hospitals, and PSWs are an essential part of the care team.
Unifor will continue meeting with affected members to provide support and push back against decisions that undermine both workers and the health care system that Ontarians rely on.
