General Membership Meeting

April 24,2023

On April 4th the London and Area Local Presidents, along with Area Director Luis Domingues, met with MP- Peter Fragiskatos (London North), MP- Arielle Kayabaga (London West), and Filomena Tassi Federal Minister of Economic Development for a round table discussion regarding the Auto Industry.

Other topics included: Canada being a leader in the creation of "Green Labour" by providing tax credits for Green Jobs, No scab legislation, a Canadian dental care program for households that make less than $90,000.00 per year, and the Federal Governments $198 billion dollar investment for health care to the Provinces.

We held a 3-day Grievance Handling and Workplace Leadership course last week with 19 attendees and we will be hosting another this week with 18 registered.

National Day of Mourning


National Day of Mourning on April 28th is to remember all workers who have lost their lives at work and reflect on ways to prevent future injuries, illness, and death. The slogan for the National Day of
Mourning is, mourn the dead, fight for the living. Please observe a moment of silence at 11:00am.

Scholarships

The scholarship from the National is now available. Each year, the scholarships are awarded to children of Unifor members that are enrolling in their first year of post-secondary training or education. You can find the application at Unifor.org and their deadline is June 9, 2023.

A reminder that the Local scholarship applications are available upon request from the office, and the deadline is May 19, 2023.

National Bargaining Strategies Program

The National Bargaining Strategies program meeting on May 10th has changed venue location. Originally to be at Local 27 it will now be held at The Portuguese Club located at 134 Falcon Street, London, at 5:30 pm.

Bargaining

Ongoing: Glendale Crossing, Highview, Norfolk Hospital, and Bankside Terrace.

Upcoming: Marshal Gowan Manor, YWCA, Medavie, and Maple View Terrace.

Ratified: Vision Retirement, and Merrymount Children's Center.
