Unifor Local 302 President’s Report- September 22, 2025

Strikes, lockouts, and closures
In the past year, Unifor has seen more than 100 strikes, lockouts, and closures across the country. These include the locked-out workers at Titan tool in Windsor where members of Local 195 have been locked out since August 11th.  The company escalated its lockout of the plant’s veteran workers, removing equipment and raw materials from its Canadian facility.

And the Local 200 workers at the Diageo bottling plant in Amherstburg, where they bottle Crown Royal which is slated to close in February. We’re seeing the same story across the country: companies turning their backs on Canadian workers and trying to ship jobs south of the border.

Family Fun Day 2025
This years Family fun Day was a great success with the Local serving over 800 people at the Barbeque and everyone enjoying the 5 tickets each for the different attractions at the park.

 Buzz Hargrove (1944-2025)
A celebration of life was held on September 21st to celebrate Buzz Hargrove. His extraordinary, storied life and enduring influence, Unifor members came together to reflect on his profound impact and incredible legacy.

Constitution Convention 2025
This years theme at the convention was Protect Canadian Jobs. This was highlighted by hearing from several striking workers from across the country, a video on the different strikes that have taken place throughout the year, and strategies to lobby governments at all levels to protect good paying Canadian jobs. We also had at times spirited debate on over 100 constitutional changes and resolutions.

This years healthcare conference will be held from October 3rd to 5th in Port Elgin at the Family Education Center. Local 302 will be sending 20 delegates to the conference.
